Purpose and Scope

This position works collaboratively with the School Based Administrative Team under the auspices of the School Principal, to assist students in developing and become better able to function socially, emotionally, and academically in the school setting. The Behavioral Specialist will implement positive, assessment-based interventions for students with identified behavior problems, designed to help reduce student risk factors and barriers to academic success.

Essential Job Functions

1.Develop an active, collaborative role with the administrative team at the assigned school. 2.Ongoing collaboration with administrative teachers, support staff and parents/guardians, provide positive behavioral support to identified students through a process which includes:a)functional assessment,b)planning,c)intervention design, andd)implementation of appropriate interventions.3.Provide assistance to classroom teachers in developing effective behavioral management/motivation systems and classroom organizational skills.4.Provide teacher instruction in the use of positive behavioral interventions (i.e., strategies to prevent problem behavior, teach adaptive skills, and use reinforces effectively. 5.Model various successful intervention strategies in a classroom setting using selected instructional materials.6.Supervise the development and completion of individual support plans designed to strengthen the student's social and self-management skills7.Counsel with students and connect them to pro-social extracurricular activities.8.Assist in design and administration of evaluation process and measurement of outcomes to include:a)the integration of behavioral interventions into students' overall program,b)ongoing documentation of behavioral support plansc)identification of barriers to implementing positive supports for individual students and for classroom modification strategies,d)tracking of changes in student's target behaviors as well as broader lifestyle/behavioral changes, ande)adjustments to intervention strategies through a design, implementation, evaluation feedback loop. 9.Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social sciences, education, or a related area from an accredited college or university is required. A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in a school setting. Prior teaching and/or substitute experience preferred.

* Ability to follow complex written and oral instructions and detail oriented
* Self-motivated and capable of generating and sharing ideas in a concise, professional manner
