  • Purpose and Scope

    Performs a variety of maintenance and repair functions for all Central Nutrition Center commercial food production equipment that includes, but is not limited to, production, handling, storage, warehouse washing, refrigeration, and related equipment and appliances. Ensures a functional, safe, and sanitary environment for food production in the CNC.  This position is also responsible for the general maintenance of the entire CNC building facility.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Establishes and maintains appropriate routine programs for lubrication, testing, and preventive maintenance.


    1. Maintains all equipment and system manuals, schematic designs of CNC, repair parts manuals and contracts, equipment specifications and instructions.


    1. Reads and interprets electrical, pressure, or vacuum gauges, meters and other recording devices and adjusts controls to insure efficient operation and/or data recording. Responsible for operation of heating, ventilation, refrigeration systems, chillers, and conveyer systems.


    1. Tests, inspects, and observes functioning of all installed equipment and systems to detect hazards or requirements for adjustments, repair, or replacement.


    1. Must maintain information of control theory and programming skills to operate and repair digital control equipment.


    1. Employs proper procedure and tools used in pipefitting, electrical work, electronic controls, plumbing, heating, refrigeration, hydraulics, pneumatics, and digital controls as it relates to the maintenance of the CNC equipment, including preventative maintenance.


    1. Maintains adequate supply of equipment parts for small repairs.


    1. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Requires a High School diploma or equivalent, plus 4 years of related experience, for a total education/experience of 4 years. Requires a valid state driver's license.


    Degree Equivalency Formula:

    Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

    Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s degrees must be included. 

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge and skills in the use of the methods, equipment, and tools pertinent to the trade
    • Knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions; awareness of local, state and national codes
    • Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers’ manuals
    • Ability to determine when repair is not economically practical, and to perform routine tasks and arithmetical computations

    Physical Requirements and Working Environment

    Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment.

    Unavoidable Hazards:  The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

    Sensory (ADA) Requirements:  The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
