Purpose and Scope

Provides and supervises instructional and behavioral activities for students referred by the school principal or assistant principal for in-school suspension. The position is responsible for ensuring assigned class work is completed, serving as an adviser to students in resolving problems as needed, maintaining classroom order, and performing related duties as assigned.  

Essential Job Functions

  1. Maintains attendance rolls, study hall roster, tardy roster and records.
  2. Tutors students when requested.
  3. Calls security for student escorts to restroom, lunch, or other designated areas.
  4. Monitors, and defuses angry, out of control or hostile student behaviors.
  5. Communicates with parents as appropriate on discipline in study hall.
  6. Maintains a quiet study environment.
  7. Compiles reports and files of individual and group incidents, action taken and/or recommended. Prepares daily and weekly reports and maintains sign-in logs of students.
  8. Complies with on-campus-suspension rules by gathering student assignments from teachers to be completed while student is absent from class.
  9. Completes process form with students as to their behavior.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.

 

Degree Equivalency Formula:

 

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the functions of the school division and its operating procedures
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities
  • Ability to operate a computer and use appropriate software applications and peripheral office equipment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.

Unavoidable Hazards:  The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

 

Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
